Training is rigorous in order to ensure our standards are met. Below is a sample syllabus.


Sample Syllabus

  • Purpose: To train qualified persons to inspect agricultural facilities

    • OPMA will provide training at no cost
    • Inspection candidates will possess the following minimum criteria:
      • Agricultural degree
      • Three years farming experience in either general produce or specific commodity farming such as tree farming or grain
      • OPMA GIP course
      • Inspector experience

  • Schedule
    • 1300 to 1330 hrs: Introductions, Experience Requirements, Course Overview, OPMA Requirements
    • 1330 to 1400 hrs: Elements of Good Inspector Practices (GIP)
    • 1400 to 1500 hrs: Examination of GIP
    • 1500 to 1600 hrs: Overview of Standards
    • 1600 to 1700 hrs: Examination
  • Read-Ahead Requirements
    • Knowledge of OPMA Core Standards (found at
    • One page hand-written essay on the purpose of inspections to be submitted at the start of class.
  • Uniform
    • Casual dress
  • Supplies Required
    • Students should bring whatever supplies they believe are needed for taking notes and taking a written examination (suggest pencil, pen and paper).
